How You Can Help

Communities In Schools of Greater New Orleans offers many opportunities for individuals or groups to volunteer their time to help kids succeed in school. Below is a sampling of opportunities:

"DONE IN A DAY" Volunteer Opportunities

These opportunities are available to individuals or groups who wish to participate in one day service projects.

  • RIF Book Distributions are great events for volunteers that cannot commit on a weekly basis. We have these events throughout the school year at our various schools. Volunteers are instantly rewarded for their services by the big smiles on the students' faces when they receive brand new books to take home.

  • These are special one-day events that schools host. There are usually various stations for the students to visit that have activities and food. Volunteers are needed to help man the stations, so teachers can attend to their classes.

"YEAR IN A LIFE" Volunteer Opportunities

These opportunities are available to those volunteers that wish to serve on a regular basis. Our volunteers must be dedicated to their volunteer duties because our students depend on volunteers to show up.

  • Nothing changes the life of a child like a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult. Our mentoring program matches volunteer mentors with students who need guidance from a role model and friend.

  • Some of the classes in our schools are large and it is difficult for teachers to give enough attention to every student. With the help of a classroom assistant, teachers can become more effective at teaching and making sure that everyone understands the concepts that are being taught.

  • Undergraduates and graduate students in a variety of education-related and social work fields can do internships at CIS. Duties will vary, depending on interests, skills, and the needs of CIS programs, but are sure to provide a valuable experience for interns and aid the mission of our work.
