CIS New Orleans announces that Brittany Morgan,ScienceREACH Coordinator, will leave at the end of June to return to her home in the Northeast, where she will embark on her plan to prepare herself for a career in public school administration.

Brittany began volunteering with Communities In Schools while a leader with the CACTUS group at Tulane University, a volunteer student group which has long been placing students as volunteers in the New Orleans community. Brittany served as a tutor and a coordinator of tutors, then joined CIS on a parttime basis until her graudation from Tulane University with a degree in neuroscience.

She structured programming that exposed students to state mandated GLE's, and utlized the talents of several professionals from the business community and college students from local university to provide a healthy breadth of programming. She implemented those services at New Orleans Math and Science High School, McMain Secondary School, Sarah T. Reed High school, and several middle schools including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter and Fischer Elementary. Under her leadership, CIS New Orleans will provide additional enrichment programming for more than 250 middle and high school students this summer. Brittany implemented well the five CIS basics for the numerous students she served, furthering CIS' mission to eliminate the dropout rate and improve graduation rates.

Brittany has been accepted at Columbia University but will defer her enrollment one year in order to gain experience in teaching. Her five years of education and experience in New Orleans will serve her well as she builds her skills to impact even more students in the years to come.
