CIS New Orleans announces that Carroll Bernard, MSW, has joined the staff. Carroll is coordinating the implementation of CIS services at Laurel and Live Oak in partnership with Renew Charter Management Organization in prepartion for its management transition in fall 2010. Carroll will eventually be assigned to one of the two schools as the CIS site coordinator, and a second coordinator to serve the other school will be named this summer.
Carroll served as a Teach For America member for two years. She decided that she wanted to continue to be involved with public education, but not as a classroom teacher.
Carroll was accepted in to the Tulane Graduate Social Work program in fall 2008. She interned for a year with CIS New Orleans at Fischer Charter Accelerated Academy and graduated in December 2009.
Sara Massey, Executive Director, said "Carroll is a great example of the type of experience and skill set we need to lead our efforts in schools. She has the combination of social work and teaching background that will position her as a professional member of the student support services team in the school she serves.
And what a great example of combining community resources for building strong human capital in New Orleans. Carroll benefited from the great experience and training provided by TFA, and then accessed the highly regarded educational experience and degree provided by Tulane. She is well-equipped to be a leader in our efforts to keep kids in school, helping them to get the services they need from the community."
