Impact on Student Success

At any school, CIS New Orleans represents only a part of the school's overall efforts to improve student's academic achievement. Keeping this in mind, CIS New Orleans tracks student trends in attendance, behavior and academic achievement to guide its priorities as an active, accountable member of the student support services team at its schools. CIS New Orleans documents statistics consistent with other CIS affiliates who have implemented the comprehensive CIS Model in other urban communities. Each activity, whether for the school-wide population or for individual students, is focused on student achievement, thereby reducing the dropout rate, increasing graduation rates. We surround students with the five basics so that each will learn, stay in school, and be prepared for life.

Communities In Schools of New Orleans partners with Talent Development/Johns Hopkins University and City Year in three New Orleans High Schools to provide a comprehensive set of interventions to students in the Ninth grade academies. With funding support provided by Pepsico Foundation, the partners work in tandem with teachers and administrators to deliver the right intervention to the right student at the right time. The data from the first semester, which tracked attendance, behavior incidences and course progression, will be released shortly. Double-digit percentage improvements will be reported in almost every category at the three schools.
