- CIS was one of a handful of community-based organizations working in all three types of public school management structures in New Orleans: Recovery School District operated schools, New Orleans Public School board operated schools, and independent public charter schools
- CIS partnered with the ELCA Lutheran Youth Gathering in July when 37,000 high school youth and adults traveled to New Orleans for their triennial convention. All participants spent 4-6 hours in community service. For CIS, the gathering resulted in the creation of 13,550 school kits, which the youth asked to be given to every K-3 grader in all 58 public schools. This gift to the Champs Choice Store is valued at more than $275,000.
- CIS is providing community leadership as its staff members are serving on six task forces or advisory committees
